In a remarkable achievement, the robotics team from Orsted Education's Surabaya campus secured the Gold Medal at the prestigious International Youth Robotics Competition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The competition, which took place from March 10-14, 2024, attracted over 200 teams from 35 countries across Asia-Pacific. Our team competed in the Advanced Robotics category, which required participants to design, build, and program autonomous robots to complete complex tasks.
Our students developed an innovative waste-sorting robot powered by AI vision recognition. The robot could identify different types of waste materials and sort them into appropriate recycling categories with 98% accuracy, significantly outperforming other competitors.
Team leader, Andi Putra (Grade 11), shared his excitement: "This victory is the result of months of hard work and dedication. Our instructors at Orsted provided us with not just technical knowledge but also the confidence to compete internationally."
This win has opened doors for our students to participate in the World Robotics Olympiad later this year. Orsted Education plans to establish a specialized robotics research lab to nurture more such talents.
"This achievement proves that Indonesian students have the potential to compete and excel at the international level when given the right guidance and resources."
- Dr. Surya Wijaya, Academic Director
